Erik Arutyunyan

Erik holds a master’s degree in mathematics from California State University, Northridge, where he graduated with distinction and a perfect 4.0 GPA. Over the past decade, he has taught and tutored math across all secondary and undergraduate levels, from algebra and calculus to linear algebra and differential equations. His primary tutoring experience comes from tutoring all college-level math classes for 6 years at Los Angeles Valley College math tutoring center. He has also tutored at Mathnasium for 2 years, where he had an opportunity to work with students from secondary school in a 3-to-1 student-to-tutor ratio. His tutoring experience is heavily augmented by countless private tutoring sessions both in-person and online, especially during the pandemic.

Through these years, he’s found that students thrive when instruction is tailored to their unique strengths and areas for growth. He has also found that mathematics can be overwhelming with concepts, notation, and abstraction. To mitigate these challenges, he explains sophisticated mathematical concepts in plain and understandable language and, possibly, with reference to the area of student’s interests. His tutoring sessions are highly student-centered: He focuses on identifying and addressing individual challenges, while reinforcing core strengths to build confidence and mastery. He strives to create a supportive, structured, and engaging learning environment that empowers students to overcome obstacles and reach their academic goals.

He welcomes any insights or resources from students and parents that can help make our sessions even more effective. He is responsive, approachable, and always ready to support learners on their journey toward mathematical confidence. He is available in-person or via Zoom.
